Farewell to the G.N.R Lines
On the 4th of May 1969 The Stephenson Locomotive Society organised a farewell tour of the GNR lines in the Derby, Nottingham and Leen Valley areas, On this tour with his Super 8 cine and stills cameras was a young Alan Thompson who made a unique and detailed record of this final journey.
This collection of photographs and cine film remained in Alans care for over 30 years until Derby Trader Heritage columnist Ron McKeown wrote an article about the GNR lines. This prompted Alan to contact Ron who an seeing the collection, realised their historical importance and obtained Alans permission to produce this video. The rest, as they say, is history.

How To Trace Your Family Tree in Derbyshire
Genealogy or tracing your family tree is one of the most popular and fastest growing hobbies. Many people starting out on the road to discovering their ancestors do not know where to go, what to ask for and whom to ask.
This video has been produced by the Derbyshire Family History Society and was filmed at Bridge Chapel House in Derby, which is the Society's Research Centre and Library. Our friendly, experienced volunteers will take you on a tour of the records available and show you how you can use them. Looking at the Census, Parish Registers and many other documents and indexes you can build a picture of your ancestors including where and how they lived. As you add names, dates and occupations to your family tree the past will come to life.
This video is a must for the beginner and will be of interest to the more experienced genealogist. It also looks behind the scenes at the 17th century Bridge Chapel House; situated just away from the City Centre, one of the oldest buildings left in Derby.
